Preliminary Task

College Magazine PULSE

The Task- Our task was to create a contents page and front cover for a college magazine using our own photographs for our final product. We had to include hand drawn drafts.

Evaluation- 

I have completed all my tasks for my preliminary topic. I found I enjoyed this task as I could be creative and show my photography skills. However I found learning how to use Photoshop for the first time stressful, but I have learnt quickly and picked up the keyboard short cuts and methods of editing. I found i made alot of changes in production from my intial plan. However i did find this helped me learn that things dont always go to plan and you have to be creative to fix problems that occur. I found the initial colours i wanted to use didnt work and looked too plain. Therefore i had to adapt from my original plan and add a more interesting visual look to my magazine contents page.

I chose a blue background for my final contents page for PULSE magazine so the
yellow font could be read more clearly.

This was the first draft to my contents page, I
asked my friends and teachers for feedback
 and they suggested I used more colours for the
 typeface.



This was my second draft but I again improved on
it and added a bright background for my final
product.

Stage 2- Taking Photos 

Here are the photos i have taken that i am using for my preliminary task- contents page and front cover. I have flipped, cropped and otherwise enhanced these images for my final preliminary product.

Front Cover Image- I edited the color
balance of this photo for my final preliminary
product for a more natural high key lighting.

I took this photo in London over summer. As photography
 is one of my hobbies which i spend alot of time doing in
my spare time, i found this benefited me in this task
as i already had high quality images to use.

 I took this photo in Dorset over the summer
holidays in my free time. This photo needed no editing.

Front cover image-
I took this photograph in Newcastle over summer
in my spare time. I chose to crop this photo to focus
on the graffiti centrally as it linked to my main
story.

I took this photo in Brick Lane, London, i found i wanted
to crop the unnecessary pavement and roofing from the
wall covered in graffiti.
